The word automobile comes, via the French automobile, from the Ancient Greek word autós, means self and the Latin mobilis which means moveable. In conclusion, automobile means a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. An automobile, motor car or car is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers, which also carries its own engine or motor.
Car is the most popular mode of transport. Now days, each family at least have one car. In Malaysia, there are a huge selection of car models, whether locally, Asia or Europe. So, we will try to navigate through Japanese car models which are Honda and Mitsubishi.
Both models are very popular among the Malaysian. They are selling fast like a hot cake in the market. The buyers certainly buy the latest models, but the old ones and the used cars too been hunted down. Then it will make us wonder, what are the main attractions in these two models? That are the contents that will be discuss here.
Based on several trustworthy resources such as magazines, articles and texts from the internet, we can conclude that both models have their own strength in the car technology. To make the comparison, we will divide the technology in smaller parts which in several main aspects. The aspects are the mobility, the driving comfort, the size of the car, fuel consumption and the market value of the car. So in the end, we will make a conclusion which model between Honda and Mitshubishi is the best car.
Firstly, to make an accurate comparison, we will use two cars that have similarity in car model and series. So for the purpose of this discussion, we will utilize on Civic 2.0 i-Vtec for Honda. However the representative for Mitsubishi model is MIVEC (Lancer Evolution GSR). Both cars have 2.0 liters.
First aspect to be considered in evaluating both models is the technology used by these two car companies. Honda used i-Vtec which means Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic camshaft. It has been created specifically to enhance the power, acceleration and more efficient use of hot oil. So in the end, Honda Civic 2.0 i-VTEC is born. Designed by Honda R&D Asia in Thailand, it is a most significant variant for loyal Honda enthusiasts in general and Civic enthusiasts in particular. It brings hope that the magic of the great legend, the Honda Civic SiR sedan is returning. While Honda Thailand markets the Civic 2.0 i-VTEC as a 2.0l luxury executive sedan, Honda Malaysia goes the other way and markets this Civic 2.0 i-VTEC as their premier sports-sedan for Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi is renowned for its MIVEC technology. MIVEC is the improvements made in fuel economy which were achieved through utilizing an improved MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control) system, which now operates on the exhaust as well as the intake valves. Furthermore, the camshaft lobs now activate the valves directly instead of via rocker arms for improved accuracy and reliability.
So both Honda and Mitsubishi models have different technology which makes cars enthusiastic have more option in determining their best car.
The second aspect is the speed for both cars, which is compared using the horse power. It is calculated using RPM. RPM is Revolutions per minute. The amount of revolutions the crankshaft in an internal combustion engine takes in 1 minute. It’s the speed of the engine. The faster it rotates, generally speaking, the closer you'll get to its maximum torque and horsepower output. In the other hand, horsepower is defined as work done over time. The exact definition of one horsepower is 33,000 lb.ft./minute. Put another way, if we were to lift 33,000 pounds one foot over a period of one minute, we would have been working at the rate of one horsepower. In this case, we'd have expended one horsepower-minute of energy. Mitsubishi has a very powerful horse power that is 291 horse power at 6500 rpm. In contrast, Honda Civic 2.0 has 197 horse power at 7800 rpm.
A car is considered to be high performance if it has a lot of power relative to the weight of the car. This makes sense -- the more weight you have, the more power it takes to accelerate it. For a given amount of power you want to minimize the weight in order to maximize the acceleration.
So, we believe that Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR has higher and greater horse power compared to Honda Civic 2.0 i-Vtec. In other words, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR is able to use its speed to left behind a Honda Civic i-Vtec in the starting acceleration. In conclusion, Honda technology cannot compete with Mitsubishi in this aspect and it makes the latter is more prominent in the high technology cars.
The third aspect is comparing both models in driving comfort. However, we might have different degrees of opinion as each car driver will have diverse views on what is important in determining the things that placate them the most. Some of the drivers tend to choose safety measures in a car that is the most essential. While the others, stated that the spacious room and the custom made interior as the crucial points. In addition, most prefer a car that has a large space to load passengers and stuffs. So, we can conclude that, a comfortable car must have a good safety measurement, custom made interior design and spacious room.
In this category, Honda’s has beaten Mitsubishi’s. Honda Civic 2.0 liter i-Vtec has upgrade or and present a high safety measure by adding an ABS system for the whole seats. In Mitsubishi, the ABS system only can be found in driver and front passenger seat. There is none for the back passenger seats. For the interior design in the car, both cars have their own catching points as they both equipped their cars with high technology and unique design dashboard. These high tech gadgets surely get applause from the users. Next, is the biggest room for loading passengers and things is winning by Honda which provides a lot more room.
Apart from above criteria, there are more additional comfort and luxury that been equipped in both cars. In entertainment and communication, both cars have the same characteristics that are am/fm stereo, cds player and mp3 player are available. However, Honda’s car has premium sound system and auxiliary audio output. In the other hand, Mitsubishi has climate control which means it has auto climate control or air condition and front air conditioning, a define characteristic that Honda do not have.
Furthermore, in the windows, mirrors and wipers aspects, both cars have the same uniqueness. They both comprise intermittent wipers, variable speed intermittent wipers, power driver and passenger mirror, power driver and passenger vanity mirror. In steering, Mitsubishi and Honda have steering wheel audio controls and leather wrapped steering wheel. In aspect interior and exterior, Mitsubishi and Honda still have same front floor mats and rear floor mats. Both have rear seat pass through, cloth seats and front bucket seats. In addition, Honda using tyres P215/45VR17 in front and at the back while Mitsubishi P245/40R18. The difference shows that both cars have their own specialty in determining what the consumer wants.
Next, we would like to compare both models in safety features. The extra safety features attracts users who prefer a safer car. Honda Civic 2.0 i-Vtec has includes drive air bag, passenger air bag, passenger air bag on/off switch, side head air bag, rear head air bag, traction control, bectronic stability control and vehicle Anti- theft system. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR in the other hand also has the same safety features as the Honda and a few more additional features such as 4-wheels abs and 4 wheel disc brakes.
The fourth aspect that we are comparing is the fuel consumption between both models. Honda CIVIC i-Vtec 2.0 is using 1 liter of petrol for the 21 km journey in urban area and 29 km for highway. in the meantime, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR is using 1 liter of petrol for 16 km journey in urban area and 22 km for highway. The difference shows that Honda has more fuel efficiency compared to Mitsubishi engine. Even though, both car have the same cc which is 1998cc, but Honda has successfully created a technology in upholding gas efficiency and the power of speed compared to the other car producer.
The last aspect that we want to compare is the market price for both models in Malaysia. This information is gathered from Asian Auto Magazine April 2011. The market price for a Honda CIVIC 2.0 i-Vtec is RM 124, 800.00 and CIVIC 2.0 Type ‘R’ Vtec is RM 199, 800.00. Meanwhile the price for a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR X is RM 315, 436.10 and Mitsubishi Lancer GT is RM 119, 624.10. In conclusion, a Mitsubishi car is more expensive than a Honda model. There are a lot more to a Mitsubishi than an eyes meet.
In overall, both these Japanese car models are so cool and potent. For example, these cars have been used in the top car action movies franchise such as Fast and Furious films. Other than that, there are a lot of the car fans and fanatics that use these two models. They are willing to spend abundance of money to own the car. For those who are not capable to buy the car, they choose to convert the local car engine to whether a Mitsubishi MIVEC or a Honda i-Vtec or Vtec. The sources for the engines come from the half cut suppliers all over the country.
Both Honda and Mitsubishi have their own special abilities. Honda technology has successfully created a car that has fuel efficiency in a lower price compared to a Mitsubishi. In the other hand, a Mitsubishi is renowned for its high speed, towering horsepower and high acceleration whereby no Honda can compete. However, both models share extra features, interior and exterior cars specifications.
We can conclude that, a Honda technology car is suitable for those who prefer comfort, fuel efficiency and a price that is within budget. However, a Mitsubishi car is more fitting for one that desires for performance, racing, sporty and stylish car. To finish off this writing, I stand to say that both cars can give a wonderful dreams and driving experience to the fans and fanatics.
